	About Pierfisher:
We provide valuable hints and
resources to make your pier fishing a more enjoyable and hopefully a more
productive experience.  We want everyone to catch as many fish as they
can and to help you avoid trouble with the Department of Natural
Resources also known as the "game warden".  Catch fish, but please follow
the rules. The rules sometimes may seem rather silly, but there were usually good reasons for them.
You will find information about equipment, types of bait to use and techniques that will catch one species of fish and what technique to use to catch others.  Not all techniques work for all fish.  Sometimes how fishing is done may seem a little strange but know that it has been developed over years of trail and error.
There are many different types and species of fish in the ocean, but not all of them congregate around a pier.  I will be describing The fish that are available to catch around a pier and won't waste my time or yours talking about fish that don't.  Typically I fish at  the South Carolina coast so most of my information is for there.  But if anyone else wants to share information please use the contact page and I may post it here and credit you with it.
About Pier Fishing:
Pier Fishing isn't just about catching fish.  It is about having fun fishing on an ocean beach pier. With a little practice, a little skill, patience and basic equipment you can have a lifetime of fun, relaxation with friends, family and others on the pier. It's not all about catching fish.  It's about enjoying the outdoors with family, friends and friends you just haven't met yet.
I have always said that my favorite type of fishing is pier fishing.  I can come out on a pier by myself, not knowing anyone, and shortly thereafter I have people to talk to, joke around with and of course, trade our fish stories with.  You don't have to know anyone, just remember you are all there for the same thing and if you don't know how to do something just ask. Others will help you just as you will help others as you gain experience.  You will make good friends by just being there to have fun and occasionally catch a fish. If you take fishing too seriously you will never have the fun that you can have by just remembering what you are really there for.  You are there to relax, enjoy the outdoors, and share with others.
About Pier Fishing Products:
We also offer products that may make your pier fishing more fun.  Such as rod rockers, jigs, quick cutters, and other items.  Check out our Products page for these items.  As time goes by we will attempt to offer more items that we think will you will be interested in purchasing.
Be Considerate, Be Safe:
- Be considerate of one another, respect other peoples space and equipment.
- Always try to leave your area cleaner than you found it.
- Abide by all rules and regulations
- Respect the resource.  If you are not going to eat it put it back in the water or give it to someone else that wants it.
- Keep at least one rod's length between you and others before you cast and be sure to look behind you first. Others may be walking by.
- Keep you fishing rig or artificial bait secured to your rod while carrying your equipment. Please don't lay down your rod down on the deck of the pier as people are walking by and they may accidentally step on your equipment or worse, get a hook stuck in them. That's especially a danger for children.
- When you clean your fish or cut bait at the cleaning stations don't just walk away without cleaning up after yourself first.  That's very inconsiderate of the next person to use that area.
Rules and Regulations:
Be aware that all pier-fishing is subject to the rules and regulations that each state may issue at any time as regards to size, limits, and seasons.  Ignorance is no excuse if an agent from the Department of Natural Resources approaches you and questions your catch.  Fines for surpassing the size or catch limit can be quite stiff.
Also, be aware that various fish are sized differently. Some are sized by "total length" which is the distance from the lip of the fish to the end of its tail.  Other fish are sized by "fork length", which is the distance from the lip of the fish to the inside fork of its tail. This is an important distinction and can result in a fine if you don't know the difference and get caught by a game warden.  Bag and slot limits also vary with the species of fish. (Bag limits are how many fish can be caught and kept in a day and slot limits are minimum and maximum size limits placed on certain fish).
The rules and regulations from state to state can vary.  Each state has the right to regulate its own rules when it comes to hunting or fishing.  Be aware and be safe. Rule breaking results in more and stiffer rules put in place.  They are there not only to manage the resource for future generations but to insure a level playing field for all.  When catching a fish and you are not aware of the type or size and bag limit, ask. Many of the experienced fishermen on the pier will be happy to answer your questions.  The only dumb question is the one that you don't ask, and believe me, we have heard them all.
